Dhootha Movie Review 2023

Dhootha is an engaging thriller with a strong narrative arc from Vikram Kumar that keeps viewers intrigued throughout. Vikram’s skilled narration creates an aura of suspenseful tension which keeps audiences riveted to their seats.

Naga Chaitanya makes his OTT debut as journalist Sagar, an investigative reporter fascinated by sinister secret surrounding newspapers that foretell tragic events. Mikolaj Sygula’s moody cinematography and Varun Venugopal’s sound design elevate the narrative.

Story line

Dhootha is an exciting thriller series featuring Naga Chaitanya as Sagar, a journalist who discovers sinister secrets behind newspapers predicting tragic events and uncovering a conspiracy that threatens his family. It explores corruption within journalism while exploring themes like good versus evil and karma; each episode ends on an exhilarating cliffhanger and keeps audiences hooked for more!

This show boasts an outstanding cast, such as Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Prachi Desai and Priya Bhavani Shankar. Chaitanya does an outstanding job capturing various shades of Sagar’s character – conveying fear, panic and uncertainty beautifully. Priya Bhavani Shankar does an exceptional job playing his pregnant wife Priya Bhavani Shankar is superb in this role as well.

Dhootha may contain some flaws, yet still keeps viewers on edge. Vikram K Kumar (director of movies such as Manam and 24), created an intriguing concept with Dhootha which shares similarities with Madhavan’s 2009 release 13B; however Dhootha focuses more on journalist investigating an event which affects their family rather than sharing similar story arcs like 13B did. Furthermore it boasts superior plot and story development compared to most thrillers!

Cast

Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam, Prachi Desai, Pasupathy, Ravindra Vijay, Tanikella Bharani and Raja Goutham each do an admirable job in their roles in Dhootha. While most viewers will find the show entertaining and engaging, some cliched scenes such as three fire extinguishers ricocheting off stairs to hit an innocent woman as she walks across them belie their claim of being an anthology of Final Destination-inspired supernatural thriller.

Naga Chaitanya makes an outstanding first appearance as a TV serial star, transcending his typically clean image and providing a complex and dynamic performance as Sagar in TV serial Gulmohar Manch. Chaitanya manages to keep viewers interested as the tale progresses and keeps audiences fully immersed throughout.

Dhootha stands out from other serials by taking an unconventional and intense approach to storytelling, which is furthered by excellent cinematography by Mikolaj Sygula and Varun Venugopal’s haunting sound design by Varun Venugopal. Cast members also deliver solid performances though more tightly wound narrative and suspenseful suspense could have increased impact of drama even further.

Vikram Kumar makes another compelling case for ethics in journalism in this series of OTT content, giving fans another reason to watch each episode binge-style.

Director

Naga Chaitanya makes his digital debut with Dhootha, a horror drama directed by Vikram Kumar and featuring Parvathy Thiruvothu, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Prachi Desai, Pasupathy, Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam and Tanikella Bharani as key cast members. Cinematographer Mikolaj Sygula captured Visakhapatnam’s moody setting through brilliant lighting; however the colour grading may feel off at times.

Vikram Kumar has taken an innovative premise and constructed a captivating dark world, keeping me entertained throughout this eight-episode series. His choice to use newspaper clippings before crimes occur adds suspense, while production design, sound effects and deaths depicted are truly captivating.

Dhootha is an engaging supernatural-horror movie. It explores morally grey characters, ethical dilemmas of journalism and portrayal of police brutality and death – something rarely seen in Telugu films. Furthermore, its captivating screenplay keeps you guessing until its conclusion – although certain missteps in narrative detract from its overall impact; such as extramarital affairs, accidental pregnancies or make-out sessions under bedsheets detracts from this impactful show.

Ratings

Dhootha, featuring Naga Chaitanya as its protagonist, attempts to explore the moral ambiguities associated with journalism while not shying away from depicting violence (including police brutality ) and death. At times its morbid tone can be too much; nevertheless there’s enough intriguing twists and performances by Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam Pasupathy Rohini Ravindra Vijay among many others that make Dhootha worth watching.

This show blends folklore, mythology and contemporary storytelling for an immersive and compelling viewing experience. Additionally, its theme of inanimate objects being haunted by ghostly forces amplifies its scare factor to keep audiences on edge throughout.

The story starts off with its protagonist recording a suicide note to his wife, but then takes an unexpected turn as mysterious events transpire. Dhootha provides the ideal setting for this tale as its atmosphere and surroundings create an eerie vibe and unnerve viewers; director Naveen Kumar shows his skills too, with each scene creating an air of mystery and creepiness; cinematography and sound design excel as Ishaan Chabbra adds his melodic pulsating music which elevates this film experience and make this viewing experience one worth your while!
