Mad Movie Review

MAD is the story of three friends named Manoj, Ashok and Damodar. Their escapades in an engineering college forms the core of the plot.

The film doffs its hat to classic campus films like 3 Idiots and Happy Days but still stands as an independent entity thanks to its original humor. Moreover, the jokes never rely on double entendres or toilet humour.

Story

Director Kalyan Shankar’s college entertainer MAD is a funny flick that will appeal to young audiences. The movie follows three engineering college students Manoj, Ashok and Damodar. They have contrasting personalities but are a fun bunch. The movie has a few rehashed jokes but overall is a laugh riot. It is reminiscent of Sekhar Kammula’s Happy Days and Raj Kumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots.

The film’s brisk pacing and entertaining story are its strengths, while the witty dialogues add to its appeal. The film could have benefited from stronger musical numbers, but this minor drawback does not detract from its overall quality.

The performances of the lead actors are noteworthy, especially that of Ram Nithiin, Sangeeth Shobhan and Vishnu Oi. The depiction of strong bonds among college students is also convincing. The movie does have some shortcomings, such as a wafer-thin plot and predictable romantic subplots. Nevertheless, MAD’s rib-tickling humor makes up for these flaws. It will appeal more to youngsters, than to older viewers. It is definitely a good time-pass watch.

Acting

Like Raj Kumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots, MAD is a non-stop ride of gags neatly packaged in a campus film. It doesn’t take itself seriously, and while some jokes are new, others are rehashed. However, it never resorts to toilet humour and double entendres, which are the low-hanging fruit in this genre. The one-liners and retorts work, thanks to a smart script. Sangeeth Shobhan, in particular, deserves a special mention for his energetic performance as DD.

Despite the remnants of other campus films, MAD stands apart with its wit and refreshing chemistry. The characters are likable and quick-witted, despite being somewhat unrealistic. The movie also boasts of a decent twist towards the end.

Young Tiger NTR’s brother-in-law Narne Nithin delivers a side-splitting portrayal of hostel life, while the other fresh faces impress with their performances. The movie is brought to life by Kalyan Shankar’s adept direction and a energetic musical score by Bheems Ceciroleo. Despite some shortcomings in the form of the songs, MAD is a riotous youthful entertainer. It is a must-watch for all college goers and youths!

Cinematography

The cinematography of the movie is decent and the film looks good on screen. The scenes are shot in a good manner and the director has done a great job in handling the camera. The film is a non-stop ride of gags and the comedy scenes are very impressive. The characters are well-written and the story moves at a good pace. The movie will definitely entertain the youth and college goers.

Mad is a comedy-filled campus drama that caters to its target audience, the youth. Its thin storyline might not be compelling and the love stories introduced at interval are confined to subplots, but the rib-tickling humor in this movie overshadows these shortcomings.

The film revolves around three friends Damodar, Manoj, and Ashok who join an engineering college with the typical youthful traits of wanting to impress girls, bunking classes, and having reckless fun. The movie doffs its hat to iconic campus films like 3 Idiots and Happy Days, but also stands on its own. The movie is laced with hilarious jokes and neat performances from the actors. Sangeeth Shobhan and Vishnu Oi stand out for their impeccable comic timing.

Music

The soundtrack to Mad Movie has received great acclaim. The music is fun, youthful and entertaining. The soundtrack is a fusion of different genres, and it will appeal to all types of audiences. It features a variety of sounds and styles, including pop, rock, and jazz. The soundtrack also features a number of catchy songs. The music is available on Wynk Music and is sure to please any listener.

Directed by Kalyan Shankar, Mad is a comedy-filled campus drama that takes inspiration from iconic campus films such as 3 Idiots and Jathi Ratnalu. The film follows the story of three friends, Manoj, Ashok, and Damodar, as they navigate through engineering college. While the story has its shortcomings, the laughs are constant. It is an enjoyable film that will appeal to the youth.

Rating

While it might be difficult to relate to the outlandish characters, MAD is a laugh riot. The gang of boys have some great comic timing and they keep the audiences entertained throughout the film.

The story revolves around Manoj, Ashok, and Damodar who join an engineering college. They have typical youthful traits like trying their luck with girls, bunking classes, and making merry in the hostel 24/7.

It is hard not to compare MAD with director Shekhar Kammula’s 2007 campus film Happy Days, but the movie stands as a standalone entertainer. The movie is original and inventive and the script offers laughs in a continuous free-flowing set of events.

The chemistry between the leads is strong and Ram Nithin, Sangeeth Shobhan, and Narne Nithiin give solid performances. The supporting cast also does a good job. The comedy scenes are well-timed and the music by Bheems Ceciroleo is lively. MAD is a great time-pass film that will please its intended audience, the youth. However, it lacks a stronger plot and logic and will fail to engage those looking for a deep and meaningful experience.
